Mother’s Day - a Time to Celebrate all the Women in Our Lives

Mother's Day: a dedicated day when families come together from wherever they are to celebrate and show appreciation to their mothers, grandmothers (nonna's), aunts, or any other caregiver in their lives.

Mothers do so much for us throughout the year and our lives. They are the heart-beat of most families. When we're young, she can whip up a quick after-school snack or healthy homemade meal in what seems like minutes. As we age, we realize they are wise sage-holders of decades of advice and become our go-to source for anything and everything we could use a helping hand with.

In Italy, Mother's Day is called La Festa Della Mamma. According to Ciao Italia, La Festa Della Mamma originates with ancient Greeks and Romans. They observed a spring fertility ritual to honor the goddess, Rhea, mother of all the gods. In Roman myth, Rhea Silvia was the mother of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome.

Traditionally, mother's are honored with flowers, cards, and gifted sweet treats like our Italian Almond Flour Macaroons (Amaretti). Then taken out to their favourite ristorante for dinner and great conversation with loved ones.
